Example

My mother cooked $0.5$ kilogram of rice on the first day. She cooked $0.25$ kilogram of rice on the second day. How many kilograms of rice did my mother cook in the two days?

Solution

Number of kilograms of rice cooked on first day = $0.5$ kilogram Number of kilograms of rice cooked on second day = $0.25$ kilogram Number of kilograms of rice cooked in two days = $0.5 + 0.25 = 0.75$

Therefore, in two days my mother cooked $0.75$ kilograms of rice.

Example 2

Baraka cultivated $0.6$ of a farm and Neema cultivated $0.1$ of the same farm. Find the difference between the sizes of the farm cultivated by Baraka and Neema.

Solution

Baraka cultivated $0.6$ of the farm, Neema cultivated $0.1$ of the farm Difference = $0.6 - 0.1 = 0.5$

Therefore, the difference between the sizes of farm cultivated by Baraka and Neema is $0.5$.

Example 3

Bakari sells $155.25$ litres of water daily. How many litres of water will he sell in 20 days?

Solution

Bakari sells $155.25$ litres of water everyday. In 20 days he will sell $155.25 \times 20 = 3,105$ litres

Therefore, Bakari will sell $3,105$ litres of water in 20 days.
