To measure our body temperature.
How do we use a thermometer to find out how hot our body is?
- A thermometer
(Implied by the aim) The thermometer will show our body temperature.
- Look at the thermometer and see what number it shows before you use it.
- Put the thermometer under your armpit so it touches your skin. Wait for two minutes.
- Take the thermometer out and read the number it shows. Write down the temperature. (See diagram below.)
Measuring Body temperature
When the thermometer was placed under the armpit, the liquid inside the thermometer went up.
- This experiment shows that the thermometer measures the heat from our body.
- Our body is warmer than the air around us, so the heat moves to the thermometer and makes the liquid inside go up.
