How does heat from the sun dry a wet cloth?

• A piece of cloth
• Water
• A rope or wire
• Pegs
• A water basin

(Implied by the aim) Heat from the sun will dry the wet cloth.

1. Pour water into the basin.
2. Put the dry cloth into the water. What do you see?
3. Take the wet cloth out of the water and squeeze it to remove extra water.
4. Hang the wet cloth in the sun for about one hour using the rope or wire and pegs.
5. After one hour, take the cloth down and check it. What do you see?

A cloth hung up to dry in the sun

• When the dry cloth was put in water, it became wet.
• When the wet cloth was hung in the sun, it became dry.

• This experiment shows that heat from the sun travels through the air and dries the wet cloth.
• This way heat travels through the air is called radiation.
