Environmental conservation and protection

Environmental conservation is the preservation of natural resources from destruction. Natural resources include land, minerals, water, air, and living organisms. Environmental conservation aims to preserve these resources to ensure their continued availability. Environmental protection, on the other hand, focuses on saving plants and animals from extinction. Plants and animals play an essential role in the ecological balance of ecosystems by maintaining an appropriate number of species in an area, ensuring the continued existence of each species.

Environmental protection discourages harmful human activities such as illegal fishing, hunting, mining, agriculture, and settlement expansion.

Environmental conservation measures

1. Setting up organizations, ministries, or agencies for environmental conservation: National ministries and agencies involved in environmental conservation include the Ministries of Food and Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Development, Natural Resources and Tourism, and Environment.
2. Educating people: Educating the public on how to undertake activities while conserving the environment.
3. Enacting strict policies and laws: Strict policies and laws should be enacted to manage pollution control and environmental conservation effectively.
4. Preservation and pollution control: Establish recycling factories, rehabilitate polluted areas, and create designated dumping areas.
5. Establishing international agreements: Collaboration between international bodies such as the United Nations (UN) and the Group of Seven Nations (G7) can help in environmental conservation. Member nations should commit to agreements like the Kyoto Protocol.
6. Personal involvement in environmental conservation:
   • Plant trees around your home and school to prevent erosion and absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
   • Dispose of rubbish in designated areas rather than throwing it around.
   • Be kind to animals and avoid harming wild or domesticated animals.
   • Avoid starting fires in forests, as a small fire can spread and destroy large parts of the forest.
   • Participate in environmental conservation programs, activities, and clean-up exercises in your area.
