Read this short conversation between Adel and Sabir at the market:

عادل: ماذا يُوجَدُ في السُّوقِ؟ (What is found at the market?)

صابر: يُوجَدُ في السُّوقِ كَثيرٌ مِنَ الأَشْياءِ كَالخُضَرِ، وَالأَسْماكِ، وَالفَواكِه، وَالخُضَرواتِ، وَالتَّوابِلِ. (Many things are found at the market: vegetables, fish, fruits, greens, and spices.)

Example 2: What Was Bought?

Read this sentence and identify the items:

صابر اشترى: السمك، الطماطم، البصل، الجزر، الزنجبيل.

In Tanzania, you can use these market words when shopping at the soko (market). For example, if you go to buy mangoes at the local market in your town, you can ask in Arabic: "بِكَمْ كِيلُو مَانْجُو؟" (How much is a kilo of mangoes?) and the seller might answer: "أَلْفٌ شِلْنٍ" (1,000 shillings). This helps you communicate when buying fruits, vegetables, and other goods in areas where Arabic is used for trading.
