Recognizing Animals and Objects in French
In this lesson, you will learn to recognize (identify) the names of animals and objects around you when you hear them or see them written in French. This means when someone says a word or shows you writing, you can understand what it means.
Domestic Animals (Animals on Farms)
Here are common farm animals you must know:
| French | English |
|---|---|
| un chat | a cat |
| un chien | a dog |
| une vache | a cow |
| une chèvre | a goat |
| une poule | a chicken |
| un canard | a duck |
| un coq | a rooster |
| un lapin | a rabbit |

Animals make different sounds. Listen and recognize:

| un coq | Cocorico ! (coquerique) |
| un canard | Coin-coin ! (cancane) |

When you see un or une (a/an), the animal is one. When you see des (some), there are many.

| C'est un chat. | Ce sont des chats. |
| C'est une vache. | Ce sont des vaches. |

(It is an elephant!) or "C'est un lion !" when you see these animals, using the French names you have learned in class.
