The nose is the sense organ that helps us smell different things. It is located at the front of the face and has two openings called nostrils, which are separated by a small piece of tissue called cartilage.

1. Nostrils – The nose has two openings called nostrils. These are the holes where air enters and exits the nose. They are separated by a soft piece of tissue called cartilage.
2. Cartilage – This is the soft tissue that separates the two nostrils and helps support the structure of the nose.

Main functions of the nose

1. Smelling – The nose detects different scents, like flowers, food, or even things that might be harmful, like smoke. The information about smells is sent to the brain for interpretation.
2. Breathing – The nose also helps us breathe by allowing air to enter and exit the lungs. It filters and warms the air we breathe before it goes into the body.

Caring for the nose

It is important to take care of our nose to keep it healthy and functioning well. Here are some simple ways to care for your nose:

1. Clean your nose using clean water – Gently wash your nose with clean water to remove any dirt, dust, or other particles that may have entered your nostrils. Avoid using dirty hands or materials when cleaning your nose.
2. Do not insert objects into your nose – Avoid putting fingers, sticks, or other objects into your nose, as this can harm the inside of your nose and may lead to infections or injuries.
