Principles of democracy
We have already identified the things that show that Tanzania is a democratic country. However, Tanzania is not the only democratic country in the world. There are other countries which also practise democracy. In general, there are principles that are regarded as principles of democracy. When such principles are violated, the country is considered as undemocratic.
The principles of democracy are
- Human Rights: Fundamental rights that every individual is entitled to, ensuring fairness and dignity for all.
- Equality: All individuals are treated the same under the law, with equal opportunities for everyone.
- Multiparty Politics: Citizens can form and join various political parties, promoting a diversity of ideas.
- Free and Fair Elections: Elections are held without manipulation, ensuring equal voting rights and transparent counting.
- Rule of Law: Everyone, including government officials, is subject to the law, ensuring fairness and preventing abuse of power.
- Good Governance: Responsible and effective management of public affairs, ensuring decisions serve the public interest.
- Transparency: Government actions and decisions are open and accessible to the public, promoting honesty.
- Accountability: Leaders are responsible for their actions and decisions, ensuring they serve the people's interests.
