Animals depend on each other in many ways, especially when it comes to eating. Some animals eat plants, some eat other animals, and some eat both. Let's learn about the different types of animals based on what they eat.

Carnivores (Meat Eaters)

2. They hunt and kill other animals to get food.

Examples of carnivores include:

These animals hunt and eat animals like:

1. Antelopes
2. Wildebeests

4. Giraffes

So, a lion might hunt and eat a zebra for food. These carnivores play an important role in nature by keeping the balance between different types of animals.

Omnivores are animals that eat both plants and animals. They have a mixed diet.

Examples of omnivores include:

1. Humans (people eat vegetables, fruits, and also meat like chicken, ducks, and beef)
2. Bears (they eat fruits, berries, fish, and sometimes small animals)
3. Sharks (they eat small fish and other animals in the sea)
4. Rats and crows (they eat both plants and small animals)

Insects like mosquitoes are also considered omnivores because they feed on human blood, but they also feed on nectar from flowers. So, an omnivore like a bear will eat berries (plants) and fish (animals) to stay healthy.

Parasites (Animals that Live on or Inside Other Animals)

Parasites are special animals that live on or inside other animals to get their food. They don't usually eat the animal completely, but take what they need to survive.

Examples of parasites include:

1. Worms that live inside the stomachs of animals like cows, pigs, or even humans.
2. Fleas and ticks that live on the skin or in the fur of animals like dogs or cats, feeding on their blood.

Birds as Carnivores and Omnivores

Some birds are carnivores because they eat other animals. For example, eagles are carnivores that hunt and eat:

2. Small animals like chicks, rats, and rabbits

Birds like eagles help control the population of smaller animals, making sure the environment stays balanced.
