What is a debate?

2. Objective: The goal of a debate is to present arguments in a structured way, often with one side prevailing over the other based on the strength of their arguments.
3. Outcome: A debate may end with consensus or a formal resolution, rather than strictly relying on objective facts.

Key elements of a debate

1. Topic (Motion): The subject matter being discussed, with two sides presenting opposing views.
2. Sides:
   • Opposing Side: The side against the motion.
   • Proposing Side: The side supporting the motion.
3. Roles:
   • Chairperson: Supervises the debate and introduces participants.
   • Secretary: Records the points discussed.
   • Time Keeper: Ensures participants adhere to the time limit.
   • Language Corrector: Corrects any grammatical mistakes during the debate.

Debate structure

1. Time Limit: Each debate has a time limit to ensure fair participation and avoid wastage of time.
2. Debate Process:
   • The chairperson introduces the participants and audience.
   • Participants from both sides present their arguments.
   • After both sides have presented their views, the chairperson summarizes all points and declares the winning side.
