Integers are formed by positive whole numbers, opposites of positive whole numbers and zero. These numbers are adjoined by dots or small pieces of lines which are equally spaced on a number line. Starting from zero to the right of the number line, the integers increase by one and from zero to the left of the number line they decrease by one. Integers have different applications in real life such as showing the temperature of an object above or below the freezing point.
For example, the temperature of 38°C below the freezing point is written as −38°C. If the temperature is above the freezing point, then it is written as 38°C. The height of 75 metres above the sea level is written as 75 metres, and the depth of 75 metres below sea level is written as −75 metres.
Positive numbers are all numbers greater than zero on the number line.
The following are examples of positive numbers.
Positive numbers can also be represented on a number line as follows:

Negative numbers are all numbers less than zero on the number line.
For example;
are negative numbers. Negative numbers can also be represented on a number line as follows:

Zero is not a positive or negative number. It is a number separating the positive and negative numbers on the number line.
Positive integers are all whole numbers starting from +1 to the right direction on the number line. These numbers are obtained by adding 1 in order to get the next number. Also, they are written by placing a plus sign (+) to the left of the number or without the plus sign. For example, in the following number line, +1, +2, +3, +4 or 1, 2, 3, 4, are positive integers.

Negative integers are all whole numbers starting from −1 to the left direction on the number line. These numbers are obtained by subtracting 1 to get the next number. They are written by placing a minus sign (−) to the left of the number. For example, in the following number line, −1, −2, −3, −4, −5, are negative integers.
