Cardinal points

When we move or navigate, we always head toward a particular direction. To understand these directions, we use a compass, which helps us identify the four main directions, known as the cardinal points. These directions are essential for guiding us to different locations, such as landmarks like a church, mosque, or bridge.

The cardinal points are:

  1. North (N) — the direction that is traditionally at the top of a map and is one of the primary directions.
  2. South (S) — opposite to North, South is the direction that typically points downward on a map.
  3. East (E) — the direction to the right of North on a map. It is where the sun rises, which is why it is often associated with the beginning of the day.
  4. West (W) — the opposite of East and points to the left of North on a map. It is where the sun sets.

Using cardinal points

A compass helps us figure out these directions when we're trying to locate specific features or navigate around an area. For example, to get to a mosque, you might need to walk North, and to reach a bridge, you may need to go West. The cardinal points guide our movements and help us understand directions clearly.

These four main directions (N, S, E, W) form the foundation for all other directions and allow us to find our way easily in any environment.
