Using Personal Pronouns
A personal pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun (a name of a person, animal, or thing). Instead of saying the same name many times, we use pronouns to make our speaking and writing easier.
For example, instead of saying "Musa likes Musa," we say "He likes himself."
Singular Pronouns (one person or thing)
| Pronoun | Used for |
|---|---|
| I | The speaker (myself) |
| you | The person we are talking to |
| she | A female (girl, woman) |
| he | A male (boy, man) |
| it | A thing or animal |
Plural Pronouns (more than one)
| Pronoun | Used for |
|---|---|
| we | The speaker and others |
| you | More than one person we talk to |
| they | More than one person or thing |

You can make sentences by combining pronouns with action words:
Example:
- She likes reading.
- He plays football.
- We eat with our family.
- They sing songs at school.
- Use I when you talk about yourself.
- Use she for females and he for males.
- Use it for animals and things.
- Use we for you and others together.
- Use they for more than one person or thing.
In everyday life in Tanzania, you use personal pronouns when talking about your family, friends, and daily activities. For example, when you go to the market in town and your mother asks you to buy vegetables, you might say: "I will buy the tomatoes, and you can buy the onions." Using pronouns correctly helps you speak clearly and briefly about people and things around you.
