- A trip to the trade fair
Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
It is Monday morning. Pupils at Mapinduzi Primary School are at the assembly place. Mr Ally, the social studies teacher, announces that Standard Five pupils should remain behind after the assembly. "Good morning pupils," the teacher said. "Good morning sir," the pupils replied. "I want to tell you something good. Are you ready to listen?" asked the teacher. "Yes sir, we are ready," the pupils answered. The teacher continued, "the school has planned a trip for your class. You will visit the Sabasaba trade fair grounds. The trip will take place next week. I will give you letters to inform your parents about the cost and purpose of the trip." "Sir, how much are we going to contribute?" asked Alex. "It is 15,000 Tanzanian shillings for each of you," replied the teacher. "There are many good things which you may like to buy such as food, drinks, fruits, biscuits, sweets, school bags and stationery. Therefore, when you go home, ask your parents to give you some money as soon as possible. Early contributions will enable the school to plan for food and transport. I hope everyone has understood," he added.
Within a month, all Standard Five pupils had paid the money. They were waiting for the special day. A day before the visit to the trade fair grounds, the school gave the pupils the trip timetable to take to their parents. It informed the parents about the schedule for the trip. The trip would start at 9:00 a.m. and the pupils were expected to arrive at the Sabasaba grounds by 11:00 a.m. The pupils would visit different places such as banks and telecommunication stalls. They would also visit agricultural and environmental departments. The trip would end at 4:00 p.m.
On the day of the trip, the Standard Five pupils looked smarter than the other classes. The teacher made important announcements about the trip. Then, they left accompanied by three teachers to the trade fair. When they arrived at the Sabasaba grounds, their teachers guided them as they were moving around. The pupils enjoyed themselves because it was their first time to visit a trade fair. When they returned to school, they were asked to write a report about the trip.
