Maps are scaled representation of all or part of the earth on a flat surface such as sheet of paper or wood. It is a graphical representation of places by using points, lines, symbols and colors to show how selected cultural and natural features are located, arranged and related to one another. Maps can represent distributions and patterns of settlements, streets, transport routes, climate and location of human activities.

A person who makes maps is called a cartographer.

4. Compass Direction (North Arrow) — A compass or north arrow shows the direction on the map, helping you know where north, south, east, and west are.
5. Latitude and Longitude — Maps have lines called latitude (horizontal) and longitude (vertical) to show exact locations on Earth. These lines form a grid.
6. Symbols — Maps use symbols, such as circles, lines, or icons, to represent features like towns, roads, and mountains.
7. Contour Lines — Contour lines show the height and shape of the land. Close lines mean steep land, and far-apart lines mean gentle slopes.
8. Borders — A map usually shows boundaries or edges of areas, like countries, regions, or districts.
9. Projection — A map projection is the way the Earth's curved surface is shown on a flat map. Different projections are used depending on the purpose of the map.
10. Accuracy — A good map is accurate and provides correct information about the location, distance, and features.
