The role of private sector in the provision of social services

The government of Tanzania recognized effective partnership with the private sector in the provision of social services in the country.

Such services are:

  1. Education – Private schools, colleges, and universities supplement government efforts by increasing access to quality education and reducing overcrowding in public schools.
  2. Health – Private hospitals, clinics, and dispensaries help extend healthcare services, reduce patient loads in public hospitals, and offer specialized care.
  3. Water – Private companies and NGOs participate in water supply and sanitation projects, especially in rural and peri-urban areas.
  4. Electric supply – Independent power producers contribute to electricity generation, expanding access and reducing power shortages.
  5. Communication and transportation – Private investment in mobile networks, internet services, and transport companies has enhanced connectivity and mobility across the country.
