The meaning of environment

Environment refers to all things that surround us. The environment consists of everything around us, including both living and non-living things. We, as humans, are also part of the environment. Things in the environment can be classified into two main categories: living things and non-living things.

Living Things

Living things are organisms that exhibit certain characteristics of life, such as the ability to grow, move, breathe, reproduce, and eventually die. They are part of the ecosystem and contribute to the balance of the environment. Some examples of living things include:

  1. Humans (people) – can grow, move, breathe, reproduce, and eventually die.
  2. Animals (e.g., birds, cows) – capable of movement, reproduction, and breathing.
  3. Plants (e.g., trees, grass) – grow, reproduce, and take in air (through photosynthesis).

Non-living Things

Non-living things are objects that do not have the ability to grow, move on their own, breathe, reproduce, or die. These things exist in the environment, but they do not possess life. Some examples of non-living things include:

  1. Houses – buildings made by humans for shelter.
  2. Roads – paths or routes for transportation.
  3. Stones – solid, inorganic materials found in nature.
