Environmental conservation involves protecting, caring for, and preserving the environment to ensure the survival of living organisms and the sustainable use of resources for present and future generations.

Levels of Environmental Conservation

Government Initiatives

Institutions and offices at village, street, ward, district, regional, and national levels manage environmental conservation. Health and environmental conservation committees operate at each level.

Community Involvement

Committees encourage participation in activities such as:

• Tree planting.
• General cleaning of the environment.
• Cleaning sewage canals.

By-laws Enforcement

Committees create by-laws to enforce conservation efforts. Offenders are fined for breaking the laws (e.g., littering fines in Moshi town: 50,000 Tanzanian shillings).
