Counting by grouping
It is much easier to count large number of objects by putting them in groups depending on your choice of the group size. For example, it is easy to count one million objects by arranging the objects in groups of hundred thousands or ten thousands. Likewise, you may use groups of thousands, hundreds or tens. Also, ten million objects can be counted by using groups of millions or one hundred thousands. You may also use groups of ten thousands, thousands or hundreds.
Counting objects not exceeding ten million (10 000 000)
- Ten banknotes of ten thousand shillings each form one hundred thousand shillings (100 000).
- Ten bundles of one hundred thousand shillings each (or 100 banknotes of ten thousand shillings) form one bundle with a total of one million shillings (1 000 000).
- Ten bundles of one million shillings each (or 1 000 banknotes of ten thousand shillings) form a bundle of ten million shillings (10 000 000).
In numerals, ten million is written as 10 000 000. The number 1 000 000 is formed by seven digits while 10 000 000 is formed by eight digits.
