- Perform coordination and flexibility exercises
Physical exercises help our bodies move better and stay healthy. When we practice coordination and flexibility exercises, we train our muscles to work together and become more flexible. These skills are important for playing games and sports, and they help us stay strong and active.
Flexibility exercises make our muscles longer and our bodies able to stretch easily. One way to practice flexibility is by using circuit cones.
What You Need
- Six cones
- A mat
How to Set Up the Circuit

- Place the cones in a circle in an open space
- Leave 3 to 5 steps between each cone
- Work in pairs or groups
Exercises to Do at Each Cone

Back Stretch: Stand beside a cone, bend down, and touch your toes. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
Thigh Stretch (Front): Stand on one leg. Lift the other leg behind you, hold your ankle, and pull gently. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds, then switch legs.
Hamstring Stretch: Sit with one leg straight and the other bent. Lean toward the straight leg. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds, then switch legs.
Calf Stretch: Stand with legs crossed. Push your back heel into the ground while bending forward. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds, then switch legs.
Waist Rotation: Put your hands on your waist. Slowly rotate your waist from right to left and back. Continue for 10 to 15 seconds.
Shoulder Stretch: Extend one arm forward. Use your other hand to pull it gently toward your chest. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds, then switch arms.
Coordination means using different parts of your body together smoothly. Balloon balance helps you train your eyes, hands, and feet to work as a team.
What You Need
- A balloon
- Cones (for obstacles)
How to Practice
- Warm up by running slowly and stretching your legs, shoulders, and waist
- Set boundaries for your playing area
- Fill the balloon with air
- Throw the balloon up and keep it from falling using your hands, feet, head, chest, or knees
- Keep the balloon in the air while moving around the area
- After 5 minutes, add cones as obstacles
- Try using two balloons at the same time
Competition Rules
If you drop the balloon, let it go outside the boundaries, or hit an obstacle, you are out. The last person keeping the balloon in the air wins.
- Hold each stretch for 10 to 15 seconds without bouncing
- Breathe normally while exercising
- Always warm up before starting
- Work with a partner or group for motivation
- Start slowly and increase speed gradually
In Tanzania, these coordination and flexibility exercises help children play popular games like football, netball, and traditional games such as dare. When you grow up, good flexibility and coordination help you with everyday tasks like farming, carrying loads, and playing sports with friends at the playground or in your community.
