- Perform agility and balance exercises
Agility means moving your body quickly and easily. Balance means keeping your body steady without falling. These exercises help you run faster, jump higher, and play sports better. They also help you stay healthy and strong.

This exercise helps you build balance. It trains your body to stay steady while moving forward.
Steps to Follow
- Warm up your body with light stretching.
- Stand straight with your feet together.
- Spread your arms out to the sides to help balance your body.
- Place your right heel in front of the big toe of your left foot.
- Then place your left heel in front of the big toe of your right foot.
- Keep repeating these steps as you walk forward.
- Try to walk faster while keeping your balance.
Practice Tip
Start slowly. As you get better, try to walk faster without stepping out of line.

Grapevine steps help you move sideways while keeping your balance. This is useful for many sports like football and netball.
Steps to Follow
- Warm up your body first.
- Stand straight with your legs uncrossed.
- Cross your right leg in front of your left leg.
- With your legs crossed, take five steps sideways to the right.
- Take five steps sideways to the left with legs still crossed.
- Now change: put your left leg in front and your right leg at the back.
- Repeat the sideways steps at least three times.
Practice Tip
Keep your arms out to the sides to help you stay balanced.

An agility ladder is a tool with boxes on the ground. You step in and out of the boxes quickly to improve your agility.
Exercise 1: Alternate Stepping
Step into the first box with your left foot, then with your right foot. Keep alternating left and right as you move through all the boxes.
Exercise 2: Single-Foot Jump
Jump into each box using only one foot. Keep your other foot raised above the ground while you hop.
Exercise 3: Both Feet Together
Step into each box with both feet at the same time. Move one foot first, then bring the other foot to join it.
Exercise 4: Side to Side
Turn your body to the right. Step into each box with both feet together. Then move sideways, putting one foot in front of the other.
Exercise 5: Back Foot In
Place your back foot into the first box. Keep your front foot outside the box. Move the outside foot into the next box while moving the inside foot out of the box.
Practice Tip
Do each exercise twice, leading with a different foot each time. Start slowly, then try to go faster.
- Warm up first — Stretch your legs and arms before starting.
- Keep your eyes forward — Do not look at your feet while moving.
- Spread your arms — This helps your body balance.
- Practice often — The more you practice, the better you will become.
- Start slowly — Speed comes after you can balance well.
In Tanzania, agility and balance help you in many daily activities. For example, when you play football with friends at the playground, you need good balance to dribble the ball and agility to quickly change direction and score goals. These exercises also help you move safely on uneven ground when walking to school or when helping your family with farming tasks like harvesting crops.
