Composing Essays with Appropriate Structure

An essay is a short piece of writing that presents a clear argument or discussion on a specific topic. At Form 5 level, you are expected to write essays that are logically organized, coherent, and meet the standards of academic writing. This study note explains the three-part structure of an essay—introduction, body, and conclusion—and provides practical guidance for composing each part effectively.

Every well-structured essay contains three essential sections that work together to present your ideas clearly:

  1. Introduction – introduces the topic and presents your main argument
  2. Body – develops and supports your argument with evidence
  3. Conclusion – summarizes your argument and leaves the reader with a final impression

These parts must be organized logically and coherently to produce a clear, impactful essay.
